The Père David’s deer, Elaphurus davidianus, has a history unlike that of any other huntable animal in the world. Native to the marshlands of northeastern China, the species became extinct in the wild during the late nineteenth century, surviving only within the imperial hunting parks of the Chinese emperors. Those remaining animals were lost during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, but a small group that had previously been transferred to Woburn Abbey in England survived. Every Père David’s deer alive today descends from that single captive population. Conservation breeding programs gradually rebuilt the species during the twentieth century, leading to successful reintroductions and the establishment of managed hunting populations around the world, including the free-range animals found on the La Pampa properties.
The species is immediately recognizable among deer. It has a large, heavy body, broad splayed hooves adapted to wet ground, and an unusually long tail. Its most distinctive feature is the antler structure, with the main beams sweeping backward rather than forward, creating a profile unlike any other deer trophy. The Texas dall sheep is a hybrid developed from mouflon, Rambouillet domestic sheep, and other wild sheep breeds that has become a distinctive hunting animal on private estates throughout Texas and South America. Mature rams display thick white to cream-colored coats and broad sweeping horns that create a trophy silhouette unlike the tighter spiral horns of the European mouflon.
Although not a pure wild species in the taxonomic sense, the Texas dall sheep found on the La Pampa properties are genuinely free-ranging animals born and raised on the open estate. Hunting them requires many of the same skills used for mouflon, including careful glassing, patient stalking, and deliberate movement across open country. Their bright white coats make mature rams visible at considerable distances while still demanding careful planning to close the distance successfully.
Typical shooting distances range from 100 to 200 yards. Standard deer calibers perform exceptionally well, and professional hunters evaluate available rams before selecting the best trophy opportunities for each hunter.

The multi-horn ram, also known in some breeding lines as the Jacob sheep, is one of the most visually unusual trophy animals available in the Argentine big game program. Most mature rams carry four horns, while exceptional individuals may develop six, producing a trophy unlike anything else in the Pointer collection. A symmetrical four-horned ram immediately stands out in any trophy room and consistently attracts attention because of its remarkable appearance.
Multi-horn rams inhabit the open country of the La Pampa properties alongside mouflon and Texas dall sheep. Like the other sheep species, they rely primarily on excellent eyesight and prefer exposed terrain where they can observe approaching danger. Professional hunters carefully evaluate individual animals, selecting those with the most symmetrical horn development, the greatest horn mass, and the strongest overall visual character.
Evaluating a quality multi-horn ram extends beyond conventional scoring methods. The number of horns, symmetry, horn length, horn mass, and overall visual balance all contribute to the quality of the trophy. Feral goat hunting offers some of the most enjoyable and action-filled hunting available on the La Pampa properties. After spending several days pursuing more deliberate species such as red stag or blackbuck, a morning hunting feral goats provides an energetic change of pace. Present in excellent numbers across both properties, these goats descend from domestic animals that escaped or were released generations ago and have since developed into alert, free-ranging game animals perfectly adapted to the Argentine bush.
A mature billy carries sweeping horns with attractive twists and curves, a heavy shaggy coat, and the distinctive beard that gives the species its rugged appearance. Although not considered a flagship trophy, a mature feral goat is an attractive addition to any Argentine trophy collection and offers a rewarding hunt in its own right.
The hunting style is energetic and fast-moving. Feral goats remain alert and flee quickly when disturbed, but they are generally less wary than blackbuck and less difficult to approach than some of the larger game species. They occupy bush edges and rugged sections of the estate where groups move unpredictably throughout the day. Feral goat hunting makes an excellent introductory hunt for arriving guests or an enjoyable afternoon activity once primary trophy objectives have been completed.
