Dove, Duck, Perdiz, and Pigeon. All Four. One Lodge. One Stay.

The Only Four-Species Mixed Bag in the Pointer Collection

No other property in the Pointer Wing Shooting collection delivers four distinct species from a single lodge in a single program. The combination of farming, cattle, rice, and timber land surrounding the property creates four unique habitat types that support a truly exceptional mixed-bag experience.

Waterfowl hunting across wetlands, marshes, rice paddies, and river systems produces outstanding duck hunting throughout the season. Perdiz are pursued behind well-trained pointing dogs across rolling grasslands and cattle country. Massive dove roosts lie within thirty minutes of the lodge, while pigeon hunting over rice and grain fields provides a more technical and deliberate challenge.

A typical mixed-bag day begins with ducks at first light followed by an afternoon devoted to dove, pigeon, or perdiz. Every day presents a different combination of species and techniques, creating unmatched variety throughout the stay.

Four World-Class Species. Four Completely Different Hunting Experiences.

The Four Species

From high-volume dove shooting and diverse duck hunting to classic perdiz pursuits behind pointing dogs and technical pigeon shooting, the program offers four distinct and rewarding wing-shooting experiences.

Dove

High-volume dove shooting from enormous roosting areas throughout the Lavalleja Department. Several major roosts within thirty minutes of the lodge provide consistent action throughout the year.

Duck

The primary draw for many first-time guests. The wetlands, marshes, and rice paddies support an impressive variety of species including silver teal, rosy-billed pochard, white-faced whistling duck, and others

Perdiz

Spotted Tinamou are hunted in the classic walked-up style behind experienced pointing dogs. Rolling grasslands and cattle country provide ideal habitat and excellent dog work throughout the season.

Pigeon

The most technical species in the program. Hunting takes place over decoys along rice and grain flight lines where patience, concealment, and accurate shooting are rewarded. Season is from January 1 – August 31

Four Species. One Lodge. Everything Within 30 Minutes of Your Door.

The Hunting

One of the greatest advantages of San Jose Lodge is proximity. Most hunting areas are located within five to thirty minutes of the lodge, with many duck wetlands and perdiz fields found directly on the ranch itself. This eliminates lengthy daily travel and allows guides to adapt quickly to weather conditions and bird movement.

A typical four-day program follows the natural movement patterns of each species. Duck hunting begins before first light and continues through the morning. After lunch and a traditional siesta, guests head out for an afternoon session targeting dove, pigeon, or perdiz. The variety keeps every day fresh and every hunt unique.

All hunting at San Jose uses twenty-gauge firearms. Lead shot remains legal in Uruguay, making twenty-gauge loads highly effective across all four species. Chest waders and hip waders are available for rental at the lodge.

Traditional Uruguayan Cuisine Built Around the Day's Harvest

The Cuisine

The cuisine at San Jose Lodge celebrates authentic Uruguayan flavors and fresh local ingredients. Breakfast includes eggs, toast, biscuits, yogurt, nuts, juice, and milk before the early morning hunt. Lunches and dinners begin with generous appetizers featuring local cheeses, sausages, nuts, dove sandwiches, and tender hare tenderloin. The evening meal often highlights the day’s harvest, with dove, perdiz, and duck prepared in traditional Uruguayan recipes including savory pies, crepes, and regional specialties. Local beef, fresh fruits, vegetables, and Uruguay’s famous dulce de leche complete the dining experience. Argentine and Uruguayan wines, including Malbec, Merlot, and Pinot varieties, are served throughout the stay. Beer is included, and guests are welcome to bring preferred spirits purchased duty-free.

Twenty Gauge. Lead Shot Legal. Everything You Need at the Lodge.

The Guns

Twenty-gauge firearms are recommended for every species. Lead shot is legal in Uruguay and provides excellent performance for ducks, dove, perdiz, and pigeon. The lodge maintains a modern fleet of Beretta and Benelli semi-automatic and over-and-under shotguns, giving guests flexibility based on their preferences. Chest waders and hip waders are available in all sizes for duck hunting guests. Please confirm sizing requirements before arrival.

Gun Fleet

The gun fleet includes Beretta and Benelli semi-automatics, as well as Beretta and Benelli over-and-under shotguns, all in 20 gauge.
